Sarasota’s Fly Dance Fitness Says Fall, Not January, Is the Right Time for a Health Reset – WENG 98.1FM, 107.5 FM & 1530 AM

  • September 15, 2026

September on the Suncoast has a way of nudging people toward new routines. The summer crowds thin out, the afternoon storms taper off, and schedules shift as seasonal residents head back. Two Sarasota business owners say that makes it the perfect moment for a health reset, and they’d rather you skip the January resolution altogether. Stacey Iltis and Kari Schroeter, co-owners of Fly Dance Fitness, frame the change as recalibration rather than restriction. As Iltis puts it, a resolution tends to be about restriction. A reset is different.

Their approach leans on a few practical principles: consistency over intensity, the accountability that comes from exercising in a group, enjoyment as a real measure of success, and goals that fit actual life. The science supports the social angle too. Research backed by the National Institutes of Health links rhythmic, social exercise like dance to reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, which matters heading into National Women’s Health & Fitness Day on September 30.

There’s a local-pride angle here as well. Fly Dance Fitness started in Sarasota and has expanded to 10 locations, with 14 more planned nationwide. Along the way it collected honors including Best Gym/Fitness Studio from SRQ Magazine and the Herald Tribune. Whether you’re a year-round resident or just back for the season, the takeaway is the same: pick movement you’ll actually show up for, and bring someone along. So what’s your fall reset going to look like this year?
