Dr. Mohiuddin just published a study suggesting ivermectin and doxycyline were far superior in treating mild to moderate COVID-19 infections than hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin.
Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medication that is being investigated and studied for use in COVID-19 infections. The in vitro studies of ivermectin against Covid-19 virus suggested ivermectin drug can be utilized to manage those patients who have been infected with SARS-CoV-2. However there are very few clinical trials and studies suggesting it could be effective in humans.
In this ivermectin study, 116 patients were enrolled and 60 received ivermectin 200 mcg/kg once and 100mg doxycycline twice a day. 56 received 200mg hydroxychloroquine (400mg first day) for 10 days and azithromycin 500mg for 5 days. These researchers found the ivermectin group had 100% recovery, lowered days of symptoms (fever and myalgias) to 5.93 days.
While more studies need to be done, this observational study shows ivermectin could be a potential for early COVID-19 infections.
