When we are giving our body proper amounts of oxygen, sleep, sunlight, and nutrient dense animal foods, we exemplify what it means to be healthy and happy. That’s what the sapien lifestyle and diet are all about. Thank you Dr. Joel Gould (@drjoelgould on instagram) for reminding us that homo sapiens were meant to function perfectly just like any other animal in their natural environment.

Vitamin D and oxygen are the most important inputs to our system. Vitamin D deficiency can contribute to poor respiratory function. Low levels of vitamin D are associated with low lung function, whereas high levels of vitamin D have been linked to strong lung function and good respiratory health.

For some parts of the year, getting adequate vitamin D is going to be tougher, particularly in the winter. During this time, it is important to buffer the effects of less sunlight by eating foods that are richer in vitamin D – liver, egg yolks, fatty fish, and red meat. In fact, we encourage people to eat these foods year round.
