UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — York Club Fitness, a new luxury gym on York Avenue and East 76th Street, is set to open its doors after months of construction.

The three-level, 13,000-square-foot space was originally estimated to open after last Thanksgiving, but was slowed in part by heavy rain and snowstorms during the buildout, Suzanne Park, the gym’s operating partner, told Patch.

York Club will welcome presale members on Wednesday, with its fitness space, WiFi lounge and juice bar available, Park said.

“Maybe it was a blessing in disguise that we were going through these issues, because it gave us more information about what we needed to do to make sure that our customers are going to have a positive experience and not be inconvenienced,” Park said.

The club will open to new members the following Monday, April 20, when group fitness classes and personal training sessions begin.

“I know people were upset that it was delayed, but it wasn’t even delayed,” Park said, adding that the timeline was still relatively fast for a project of this size.

The new gym is opening at the former New York Health and Racquet Club, which closed in 2020.

“I don’t know if people understand that to renovate from a full demolition to building out 15,000 square feet is like almost a two-year job,” Park said. “I actually think, as an operator, it’s a miracle that we’re opening so quickly,” Park said.

Locker room saunas will be available at launch, while a larger spa and physical therapy area — including multiple saunas, a cold plunge and a snow room — is expected to open later this year.

A run club, suggested by a member, is also in the works, Park said.

“Because we are a small business, we don’t have layers of bureaucracy, ” Park said. “So, if there’s a great idea, something that we feel like is going to be good for our community and for our members, we can make it happen very quickly.”

The team behind York Club has operated boutique gyms in New York for more than 25 years and said this is its largest project to date.

The gym aims to serve a wide range of members, from young professionals to older residents, with senior-friendly classes planned.

“I’m really just excited to interact with the members and really just start to get to know them and provide our services,” Park said. “

Part of our whole purpose was to build community, so to start being able to welcome them and just answer questions and even get ideas is really exciting.”

Membership pricing is rising as the gym gets closer to opening, and currently costs $219 per month, Park said.

York Club Fitness is located at 1433 York Ave. in Manhattan.
