UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Individuals interested in exploring mental health practices and strategies through gardening can attend an upcoming series of workshops hosted by Penn State Extension.
The “Mental Wellness Garden” workshop series will occur from noon-1 p.m. at the J. Roy Houston Conservation Center, 218 Donohoe Road, Greensburg.
The series will include the following workshops:
— “Building Resilience,” May 12. This session explores the concept of resilience and provides practical approaches to strengthen skills that foster growth, hope and learning during challenging times. Participants also will engage in a hands-on activity led by Master Gardeners, during which they will plant dahlia bulbs to take home as a symbol of personal growth and resilience. A light lunch is included. Register here.
— “Emotional Overload,” June 9. In this workshop, participants will learn to recognize signs of stress and practice skills to reframe stressful situations, helping reduce the impact of emotional overload on both mental and physical well-being. The session concludes with a hands-on Master Gardener-led activity in which attendees create aromatic lavender wands designed to promote relaxation and calm. A light lunch is included. Register here.
Organizers note that space is limited, so preregistration is required. Preregistration dates vary by event and can be found on each event’s registration page. Registration carries a fee of $20 for each workshop.
