Breakfast: Omelet and Coffee
Eggs – are known to support brain health because they are high in B6, B12 and Choline. Choline is an important micronutrient that your body needs to create acetylcholine which is a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood and memory.
Bell Peppers/tomatoes – Super rich in vitamin C which is a key factor in preventing mental decline, eating sufficient vitamin C can even reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Oranges – another great source of vitamin C.
Coffee – is comprised of 2 main components, caffeine and antioxidants
.
1. Caffeine is good because it blocks adenosine which is the chemical that makes you sleepy.
2. Is also known to release serotonin which is the “feel good” neurotransmitter.
Lunch: Non-Fat Greek Yogurt Bowl
Whole grain – High in vitamin E, which protect brain cells from oxidative stress cause by free radicals.
Mixed Berries – Super rich in antioxidants; anthocyanin, caffeic acid, catechin, and quercetin. These antioxidants help the brain by,
1. Improving communication between brain cells
2. Increasing plasticity which helps the brain make new connections which helps learning and memory
3. Reducing or delaying age-related neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive decline
Dark Chocolate – similar effects as berries due to having some of the same antioxidants as berries
Dinner: Salmon and Broccoli
Oily Fish – Rich in Omega 3 Fatty acids, helps build membranes around the cells in the brain which in turn can improve the structure of the neurons. It also increases blood flow to the brain which improves brain function.
Broccoli – high in compounds called glucosinolates. When the body breaks these down, they produce isothiocyanates. Isothiocyanates can reduce oxidative stress and lower the risk of neurodegenerative diseases and it’s also contains vitamin C and flavonoids, and these antioxidants can further boost a person’s brain health.
