A holistic approach to immunity: Experts highlight how homeopathy and lifestyle habits can help the body adapt to seasonal changes naturally

As seasons shift, so does the body’s ability to adapt. For many, this transition brings with it a familiar cycle, recurring colds, allergies, fatigue, or flare-ups of existing conditions. While these are often dismissed as inevitable responses to weather changes, experts suggest the real story may lie deeper, within the body’s internal patterns.

According to Dr Deeksha Katiyar, Founder and MD, WeClinic Homeopathy, seasonal illness is rarely just about external triggers. “Seasonal illness is usually treated as something external, like a change in weather, but in practice, the bigger issue is internal consistency.

The same patient reacts the same way every year, almost like a fixed pattern,” she explains.

This pattern-based understanding is where homeopathy sets itself apart. Rather than addressing each episode as an isolated event, it focuses on identifying and correcting recurring responses. “What makes homeopathy different is that it does not treat these episodes as separate events. It treats them as a repeated response that needs to be corrected,” she adds.

This approach, she notes, can have long-term benefits. Patients who once fell ill with every seasonal shift often begin to experience fewer episodes over time. “One of the most overlooked aspects of homeopathy is its ability to change the frequency of illness. Over time, the body stops reacting so easily. This reduces the need for treatment in the first place,” says Dr. Katiyar.

The idea of strengthening the body’s internal balance is echoed by Dr Satvik Patel, General Physician, Zynova Shalby Hospital, Mumbai, who highlights the growing preference for holistic approaches. “Boosting immunity during changing seasons is necessary to prevent allergies and infections and stay healthy. Many people opt for homeopathy, which focuses on enhancing the body’s natural defense system rather than just treating symptoms,” he says.

Dr. Patel also underscores the importance of integrating lifestyle changes alongside treatment. “Remedies are selected based on individual health, making the approach personalised and gentle. Along with homeopathy, simple habits like a balanced diet, adequate sleep, hydration, and regular exercise can help boost immunity,” he explains, adding that this combined approach can improve overall well-being and reduce the frequency of illness.

Taking a more classical perspective, Dr. Issac Mathai, Founder Chairman and Medical Director, SOUKYA International Holistic Health Center, frames immunity as a deeper, systemic function. “Seasonal transitions are often associated with increased vulnerability to infections and exacerbation of chronic conditions due to environmental and climatic fluctuations,” he says.

From a homeopathic standpoint, immunity is not just about resistance to disease but the expression of the body’s internal equilibrium. “Immunity is understood as the dynamic expression of the organism’s vital force, which governs adaptive and defensive mechanisms,” Dr. Mathai explains, referencing the principles laid out by Samuel Hahnemann.

Homeopathy, he notes, works by addressing the individual as a whole. “It adopts an individualized and holistic approach to immune support, focusing on the totality of symptoms and constitutional predisposition,” he says. During seasonal changes, remedies may be prescribed based on individual constitution or in response to broader epidemic patterns. Commonly indicated medicines include Arsenicum album, Gelsemium sempervirens, and Rhus toxicodendron, selected strictly according to the law of similars.

Importantly, this approach is designed to support long-term balance rather than immediate relief alone. “Homeopathy strengthens internal balance with no side effects and reduces susceptibility to illness,” adds Dr Mathai.

Across these perspectives, a common thread emerges, immunity is not a quick fix but a sustained state of balance. While homeopathy offers one pathway to achieving this, experts agree that its effectiveness is amplified when paired with mindful lifestyle choices.

As the seasons continue to shift, the focus is gradually moving from reactive treatment to proactive care, where the goal is not just to manage illness, but to reduce the body’s tendency to fall sick in the first place.
