Amarillo Park Adds Outdoor Fitness Court

With so many different parks in Amarillo, it’s obvious we love to be outdoors. We have some great places to ride bikes, playgrounds the kiddos can enjoy, splash pads popping up all over the city, etc. We just love to get out.

Now, something that we haven’t had until now is being built, and I love the concept of it.

Formerly known as Medi Park, we’re about to see a huge upgrade at John Ward Memorial Park. National Fitness Campaign identified the park and Amarillo as a perfect place to bring an outdoor fitness court to, and I think it’s amazing.

The fitness court is laid out to include seven different bodyweight movements, and it will include agility and core exercises to complete. Things such as squats, lunges, bending, and agility will be included in the seven workouts to get you in shape quickly!

Other Things To Know

John Ward Memorial Park was chosen due to its visibility and the existing trails that were already there. Brian Hudson, senior partnership development manager, National Fitness Campaign, mentioned the ability to be able to train seriously, go for a walk on a lunch break, or simply get some movement throughout the day as the reason for choosing the park. You can do it all there.

The entire fitness court will be ADA accessible, and it’ll be built for all ages, so it’s truly inclusive for everyone to utilize. You can also download the Fitness Court app for exercise instruction if you’re lost on how to do something, as well as additional guidance. They expect the court to be built and ready for use by the end of summer.
