Kinston Teens’ new program empowers youth for mental wellness

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — Kinston Teens is hosting a Peer Wellness Leaders Program this summer.

This initiative is designed to equip young people with tools, resources, and leadership skills to support mental wellness and build stronger connections within their community.

The program combines wellness education, peer support, service-learning, and community engagement opportunities centered around resilience and holistic wellbeing.

Peer Wellness Leader Participants will receive:

Teen Mental Health First Aid Certification

A $450 stipend for successful completion

Hands-On leadership and service expirience

Opportunities to lead real community initiatives

Connect with mentors, peers, and community leaders

Documented service hours for college and scholarship applications

Interested youth ages 14-18 must attend a required information session alongside a parent or legal guardian before applying.

The required parent and youth session is May 13 at 5:30 p.m. at 327 N. Queen Street, Kinston, NC 28501
