Leaders in Alabama are celebrating the Year of Alabama Trails, urging residents to explore and appreciate the state’s diverse natural landscapes and trails.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — State and local leaders have a message for residents: take a hike.
City and organization officials gathered at Blevins Gap Wednesday afternoon to spotlight the Bill and Marion Certain Trail as part of the statewide Year of Alabama Trails celebration.
For Alabama Trails Foundation President Paul DeMarco, the event was an opportunity to put the state’s natural beauty on full display.
“There’s so much diverse topography, waterways, trails,” DeMarco said. “That’s what we’re celebrating with the Year of Trails in Alabama this year, making sure everyone around the nation sees what we have here in Alabama, what we’re proud of and what we ourselves enjoy as we get out and enjoy the beautiful Alabama.”
DeMarco said the state has a lot to offer outdoor enthusiasts and called the diversity of Alabama’s landscapes something residents and visitors alike should take pride in.
He added that he is proud to see local governments and organizations across the Tennessee Valley working together to promote outdoor activities and encourage people to explore the region’s natural resources.
The Year of Alabama Trails initiative aims to draw attention to the hundreds of miles of trails across the state, from the mountains of north Alabama to the coastal plains in the south.
